This talk will address the study of Islamic Enamelled and gilded glasses from the 13th and 14th century. It will look at the history of painted glass with a specific focus on the medieval glass production. It will also raise questions of correlations between Islamic and Byzantine glass and possible interdependence. The talk will finish with a look at specific objects from IAMM collection – mosque lamps and the lighting devices in the medieval Islamic environment and how they were admired and copied in the 19th century Orientalist revival.
