In conjunction with the special exhibition, ‘Islamic Bookbinding’, IAMM would like to invite all enthusiastic learner and lover of arts to join our Islamic Illumination Workshop by Azma Salman. In this 3 days workshop, participants will be introduced to the motifs and vocabulary of this art form, how to use these motifs to create their own compositions and floral painting techniques. They will go through all the stages of a finished work of illumination. They will also learn how to prepare ahaar and Muraqqa, a type of special paper and board used in illumination and calligraphy; and gilding, the process of making shell gold from gold leaves and its application.

Biography of Azma Salman:
Azma Salman is an illumination or “Tezhib” artist and has been teaching Traditional Islamic Art at the National College of Arts, Lahore, Pakistan. Holding a Masters of Arts in Visual Islamic and Traditional Arts, she is the only illuminator in Pakistan with a formal degree in Islamic Art field. Despite that, she still travels to Turkey to receive training from the masters of illumination there. Her works has been exhibited in London and Pakistan.
