Manifestasi Perdana Seni Khat 2013
The Islamic Arts Museum Malaysia (IAMM) has successfully hosted the calligraphy competition, Manifestasi Perdana Seni Khat (MPSK), for the fifth time on December 21, 2013, parallel to a good response from the previous MPSK that was held in 1991, 2001, 2003 and 2009. IAMM once again had the honour of hosting the calligraphy competition, which is in cooperation with the National Calligraphy Association (PSKK), and supported by Kumpulan Utusan, Bank Muamalat Malaysia Berhad, Al-Hijrah TV and Radio IKIM. The competition indirectly gives exposure and educates the public to recognize the beauty of the Muslims heritage.
It is important for this form of art to be kept alive. As the Chinese calligraphy is admired by the whole world through its preservation, it is the time for the same initiative to be carried out for Arabic calligraphy. Hopefully, this competition will be able to capture the hearts of art lovers to the subtlety and beauty of the calligraphy. The popularity of Islamic calligraphy nowadays is rising and people in Malaysia have started to show their interest regardless of age. This can be seen from the increasing number of participants who, year to year, attended the calligraphy workshop held at the museum. It clearly proves that calligraphy is not only pleasant and gratifying, but can also be used as a profitable hobby.
As conservator, restorer and educator of Islamic art, IAMM is playing a vital role to interpret the aspects of art in human life, and at the same time attracting people to contribute in maintaining this invaluable heritage for the future generation. Thus, IAMM is very proud to be able to shape MPSK as a platform for promoting Islamic art, as well as to provide an opportunity for Muslim calligraphers in Malaysia to reveal their skills in this competition.
