Iznik Dish
Turkey
c. year 1590-1600
29cm. diameter

Iznik wares are one of the most famous ceramic arts created in the past. The ship represents an Ottoman ship with their distinctive triangular sails. However, it also carries a European influence in its three-masted galleon. It is perhaps a reflection of the rising export market for such decorative wares around the world.

Decorated in two tones of cobalt blue, green and relief red, with black outlines, it also features three fishes swimming down below in the deep blue sea. All aboard…lets set sail for a great adventure!
