Permanent trainers include one Malaysian conservator for Archival Material with more than 30 years experience, Tuan Haji Mohd Razali Mohd Zain. Non-permanent trainers (short- and medium-term) include experts of various nationalities.

The Conservation Department can rely on a broad knowledge base due to its 12 team members with diverse background profiles ranging from fine arts and design, fine metal to chemistry, science to applied science, art to craft and digital photography to computer animation.

Thus, conservation and restoration at the IAMM is a truly interdisciplinary endeavour. The various backgrounds of the team members who are undergoing specific conservation and restoration training reflect the diversity of objects and materials presented at IAMM. It also ensures the application of respective approaches as required in professional conservation.
